Signs of Emergency
- • Difficulty breathing, choking, or gagging
- • Profuse bleeding that won't stop
- • Seizures or loss of consciousness
- • Inability to stand or walk
- • Severe vomiting or diarrhea (especially with blood)
- • Bloated, hard abdomen (possible GDV)
- • Eye injuries or sudden blindness
- • Suspected poisoning (bring packaging)
- • Difficulty giving birth
- • Trauma (hit by car, fall, animal attack)
First Aid Tips
- • Stay calm — your pet needs you
- • Call us immediately so we can prepare
- • Keep your pet warm and still
- • For bleeding: apply gentle pressure with clean cloth
- • For choking: carefully check mouth for objects
- • Do NOT give human medications (ibuprofen, acetaminophen are toxic)
- • Do NOT induce vomiting unless told to by a vet
- • Transport in a secure carrier or on a flat surface
- • Bring any suspected toxin packaging
- • Note the time symptoms started
