What is Senior Screening?
Senior screening is a comprehensive health assessment designed to detect age-related diseases before symptoms appear. It includes: complete physical examination (looking for lumps, dental disease, joint problems, heart changes), blood tests (CBC, chemistry panel, thyroid test), urinalysis (kidney function, urinary tract health, diabetes screening), blood pressure measurement (hypertension damages kidneys, eyes, and heart), and chest X-rays or abdominal ultrasound if indicated.
Common Senior Diseases
Kidney disease: very common in cats; detected early through SDMA test and urinalysis. Diabetes mellitus: causes increased thirst, urination, and weight loss. Hyperthyroidism (cats): causes weight loss despite increased appetite, hyperactivity, and heart disease. Hypothyroidism (dogs): causes weight gain, lethargy, and skin problems. How Often to Screen
